# Notary public Abu Dhabi and Marina Mall: a guide before you go

The notary public in Abu Dhabi works within the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, the emirate's judicial authority, and many people look for it at Marina Mall. Before you drive there, check one thing on the official site: whether the Marina Mall office handles notary work, attestation, or both. The notary public Abu Dhabi Marina Mall visitors look for and the attestation office at Marina Mall may not be the same counter.

The offices on this page are run by the Abu Dhabi authorities. We are Notary Services in Dubai, with an in-house notary public in Business Bay, Dubai. We draft documents for people who sign in Abu Dhabi, and when signing in Dubai would be simpler, our in-house notary public in Business Bay can notarise them.

* Abu Dhabi's judicial authority is the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD). Its website is the place to check notary locations, services and hours. Its notary page is [adjd.gov.ae](https://www.adjd.gov.ae/EN/Pages/notarypublics.aspx).
* At Marina Mall, check on the ADJD site whether the government office takes notary work, attestation or both.
* The notary checks your identity from an ID card, passport or other official document, and reads the document out before you sign.
* Notarised instruments are in Arabic, so bring a legal translation for any document in another language.
* A document from abroad needs the attestation chain ending with MOFAIC before any UAE notary will rely on it.

## Who runs notary work in Abu Dhabi

Notarial duties in the UAE are done only by public notaries, private notaries and accredited UAE consuls. In Abu Dhabi, the public side sits with the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department. The federal notary law does not apply to local judicial authorities whose notary services run under their own legislation, so the exact rules and fees in Abu Dhabi are the ones ADJD publishes. ADJD states that Abu Dhabi's notary work runs under Law No. 11 of 2017 regarding the notary public in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

For a court procedure in Abu Dhabi, as opposed to a notary visit, the guide on the [Abu Dhabi court notary](https://notarypublicindubai.com/abu-dhabi-court-notary/) explains the steps.

## Marina Mall: notary, attestation, or both?

Marina Mall in Abu Dhabi is well known, and many people looking for a notary office or for attestation in Abu Dhabi go there first. Notarisation and attestation are different acts done by different authorities:

* **Notarisation** is the notary checking your identity, watching you sign and sealing the document. In Abu Dhabi, that is ADJD's notary.
* **Attestation** is MOFAIC, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirming the seal on an existing document so another country or authority accepts it.

If you need a [power of attorney](https://notaryservicesindubai.com/power-of-attorney-in-dubai/) or an affidavit signed, you need a notary. If you need a degree certificate or a marriage certificate accepted, you need attestation. Check the office's services on the official site before you go, and if the page is unclear, call the number the official site gives.

Our page on the [difference between notary and attestation](https://notaryservicesindubai.com/notary-and-attestation-difference/) explains both acts in more detail.

## Other notary offices in Abu Dhabi

ADJD serves a large emirate, and Marina Mall is not the only place people go. Residents of the mainland and industrial areas often look nearer to home. Our page on [notary services near Mussafah](https://notaryservicesindubai.com/notary-public-in-mussafah-abu-dhabi/) covers that area. For Al Ain and the Western Region, check the ADJD site for the nearest office.

If you need a notary public in Abu Dhabi near you, private notaries work in Abu Dhabi as well as the public notary.

Checklist

## What to bring to a notary in Abu Dhabi

The checks a notary makes are much the same in every emirate, so the core list is the same:

Before you go

* Your original Emirates ID, or passport if you are visiting.
* The document in Arabic, or in Arabic and English, with a legal translation by a translator registered with the Ministry of Justice for anything in another language.
* The details of any other party, such as the agent in a power of attorney.
* The supporting document: a title deed, a vehicle registration, a trade licence or a birth certificate.
* For a document from abroad: the original, attested in its home country, by the UAE embassy there, and by MOFAIC.

If you do not speak Arabic, the notary uses an interpreter so you understand what you sign. You should never sign a document you have not had explained to you.

## Fees in Abu Dhabi

ADJD publishes its own fees in its notary service manual, for example AED 100 for each year a power of attorney runs, AED 500 for a signature authorisation and AED 100 for an affirmation of support. These differ from Cabinet Resolution No. 19 of 2024, the federal schedule, which sets AED 100 per party for a power of attorney and AED 300 for an affidavit. MOFAIC attestation, which is federal, is AED 150 for a personal document and AED 2,000 for a commercial one.

Our full fee explanation is on [notary public charges](https://notaryservicesindubai.com/how-much-is-notary-cost/).

## Living in Dubai, signing for Abu Dhabi

Many people who need a notary public in Abu Dhabi actually live in Dubai. If you live in Dubai and the document is for an Abu Dhabi authority, you may be able to sign before a Dubai notary instead of driving to Abu Dhabi. Ask the Abu Dhabi authority that will receive the document whether it accepts a Dubai notarisation. If it does, our guide to [Dubai Courts notary public locations](https://notaryservicesindubai.com/notary-public-office-in-dubai/) shows where to sign.

Filipino residents of Abu Dhabi often need an affidavit of support. The Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi is one route; our [affidavit of support](https://notaryservicesindubai.com/affidavit-of-support-dubai/) page explains the mission route and when a UAE notary is the right office instead.

### Is there a notary public at Marina Mall in Abu Dhabi?

Many people look for one there, but check the ADJD and MOFAIC sites for what the Marina Mall office handles before you go. It may be an attestation office rather than a notary office, and the two do different jobs.

### Who is the notary public in Abu Dhabi?

The public notary in Abu Dhabi works under the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department. Private notaries also work in the emirate. Both must verify your identity and read the document to you before you sign.

### What are the notary public Abu Dhabi timings?

ADJD publishes them. Hours change and differ between offices, so check the office on the official site on the day you go.

### Can I use a Dubai notary for an Abu Dhabi document?

Often, but not always. Ask the Abu Dhabi authority that will receive the document whether it accepts a Dubai notarisation before you sign.

### Do I need an appointment at an Abu Dhabi notary office?

Booking rules are set by ADJD and can change. Check the official site, or ask us to check for your document. ADJD's service manual describes the steps: apply on the ADJD website, pay after approval, then book a remote meeting with the notary.
